Our Listing Process

In today’s blog post, we’ll address our listing process. What goes into listing a puppy? When do they get listed, and how do we determine who do they get offered to first? We are very careful to only allow what we and our vets consider breeding/show quality to be purchased with full akc/breeding rights. We really prefer for all of our puppies to be first and foremost in loving pet homes. We only sell to breeders with whom we have a trusting relationship with, or have researched carefully to ensure an excellent home.

General Overview

We don't list any of our poodle puppies until after they have had their 1st vet check at 6 weeks old. This allows us to have an opportunity to chart their growth and begin to see their personalities.
At that time, we work with our vet to determine which puppies will be show/breeding quality and which puppies will be pet/companion quality. After that, the puppies will be offered to those on our Waiting Lists first and then all other puppies will be offered as available on our website.

What Makes a Dog Breeding Quality?

While not all puppies pass our rigorous breeding/show quality screenings, none of these minor flaws affect the overall quality of life, health or longevity of the dog; rather, as responsible breeders, we have chosen to not allow them to be introduced to the breeding gene pool so as to strive to keep improving the breed. After all, these dogs are living creatures and hardly any are absolutely perfect.

Some are deemed pet-quality due to a number of factors including but not limited to, bite, patellas, conformation, size and/or width of pelvic cradle (females), presence of testicles (males), color or markings, carrier (not affected) of any genetic disease, etc. We are very careful to address these concerns with our vet prior to offering our puppies to anyone on our waiting lists or on our website.

What Goes Into Each Listing?

While it may not seem like a lot, there is so much that goes into listing our puppies. We have health, color, and coat-testing done for each of our parent dogs as well as applicable OFA testing. These are made into “contract packages” that are linked on our website for those looking for Full AKC/Breeding Quality dogs. It’s also there to assure our pet customers that the parents have been heath tested and they can know what to expect with their new addition. Relevant health, color, and coat information for each puppy will also be included in each listing. Prospective puppy adoptees are also more than welcome to request tests on traits for our puppies!

Past health, expected adult size is included in a listing. Part of why we wait until 6 weeks of age to list our puppies is because weight can vary from week to week, and we want to make sure that our puppies are healthy and that we have a general idea of what weight they will end up at. These size projections are based on parents’ sizes as well as their current rate of growth.

Everybody’s favorite part of any listing is pictures! What’s the point of listing a puppy if you can’t even see them? I make sure to take lots of pictures of our puppies around that 6 week mark. Occasionally, I’ll do some “sneak peek” photos for our the Upcoming Litters portion of our Waiting List page, but this is just to show off what we have coming up next!

Along with pictures, we are also eager to provide any information that we can deduce about the personalities of each puppy in our listings. I am careful to spend time with each puppy during our first picture session as well as time with the litter so that I can see everyone interact and gauge general temperaments, personality traits, and can write up a description for them to find their perfect home

Puppies of the Week

Stormee & Kit Kat’s litters have been listed, which is why we found it extremely relevant to include just what our listing process is! We’re so excited to share them with you all!
