For side-by-side breeding services, we require that your female have a current negative brucellosis blood test within the last 30 days. This is a simple blood draw and testing performed by your vet and the results may take a couple of days for results, so please plan accordingly. This requirement is not applicable for any artificial insemination services.

We do require progesterone testing to carefully time the insemination & to guarantee pregnancy. This is a blood draw and testing done by your vet. Progesterone testing should begin when the discharge is very light to non-existent, which occurs the end of her bleeding cycle.
Every female’s cycle is different.…some are “textbook” perfect and you can count the days of her cycle until she is “ready” to breed. Others can stay at a lower level for several days and then their levels will rise quite rapidly. Stalling is also possible, which is when her progesterone numbers are “stalled” within a narrow number range (which can definitely occur over 5 ng/ml), and then they will finally start to rise to the target number for the best timing of insemination.
Because of these factors, we strongly recommend that you test your girl’s progesterone number on the 1st day of insemination in an effort to evaluate whether or not you will require another sample or if she’s stalled, or even regressed.
See chart below for guidance and actions to take given the progesterone numbers she tests at. This is a chart provided by IDEXX which we refer to for timing our breedings.
Below 1.0 ng/mi - no ovarian activity - ACTION: Test every 3 or 4 days
1.0 to 2.0 ng/ml - rise indicates active ovary - ACTION: test in 2 to 3 days
2 to 4.9 no/mi - active ovary - ACTION - Test every 24 hours until you determine 5.0
5.0 Ovulation!
5 to 6 ng/ml - ACTION - Breed in 2 to 3 days
6 to 11 ng/ml - ACTION - BREED in 1 to 2 days
11 to 19 ng/ml - ACTION - BREED TODAY!
Over 19 ng/ml - BREED IMMEDIATELY if vaginal smear is OK and female is still receptive. This is considered LATE, if you have to ship semen. Hope for the best! -
